Advisors' Opinion:- [By Dan Caplinger]
In the longer term, IAMGOLD could potential challenges from higher taxes on some of its holdings. The Canadian province of Quebec is considering changing the current 16% profit tax either to what amounts to a gross revenue tax or to a more progressive profit tax with higher rates on high-margin mining operations. Under current conditions, those taxes might not have much effect either on IAMGOLD or rivals Agnico-Eagle (NYSE: AEM ) and Goldcorp (NYSE: GG ) , both of which also have projects in the province, but it's hard to predict how a changes might affect future results if they take effect.

We can start with Tsakos Energy Navigation Limited (NYSE: TNP ) . Shares of the energy transporter moved 27% higher last week after surprising the market with a quarterly profit. Business isn't great at Tsakos. Revenue dipped slightly during the period, and a profit of $0.02 a share may not turn heads. However, analysts were bracing for a loss of $0.08 a share on a sharper decline in revenue.

On this scorecard, I think Yamana Gold (AUY) is a good example of what you should be looking for in the sector, even if it may still be a little early in the transition to buy anything. (If you disagree with me on timing, I'd start with a stock such as Yamana. Yamana is a member of my long-term Jubak Picks 50 portfolio. And I do think Yamana is a good trading vehicle for this market in gold.)

Even if you're not the biggest fan of metal stocks, if you're going to add one to your Watchlist, make it Yamana Gold. - [By Taylor Muckerman and Joel South]
Well, turn no further than to Yamana Gold (NYSE: AUY ) for a completely different perspective. Here is a company that plans on increasing its production by 20% over 2012 figures. Instead of cutting its activity levels, it plans on cutting its mining cost structure by around 17.5%. These measures are expected to be fully carried out in 2013, with two-thirds of them forecast to be successful by mid-year. It will certainly be worth tracking the company's progress over the next two quarters.
